The 'Who'
Your non-technical skills are as important as your technical skills
Gone of the days where being technically proficient was enough to get you by. Your attitude is just as, if not arguably more important than your ability to do the job. The following traits are critically important to the success of an RCO.
![0S6A6913.jpg](https://static.wixstatic.com/media/2ccc1b_0ec3108f53b34148987fabdf4d607fc7~mv2.jpg/v1/fill/w_281,h_187,al_c,q_80,usm_0.66_1.00_0.01,enc_avif,quality_auto/2ccc1b_0ec3108f53b34148987fabdf4d607fc7~mv2.jpg)
01
'Drive'
As an RCO you must be a self starter and a team player. You are often the only RCO on the aircraft, it is critical to be proactive, supportive of your crew, and possess the initiative to better yourself and support those around you.
02
'Fitness'
There is a fitness requirement with almost all RCO jobs, just like we have a fitness assessment at Sentinel Aviation that you must pass before commencing training:
-
1.6km run in 7mins
-
5 x wide grip pull-ups
-
15 push-ups
-
400m swim in 7mins 30sec
-
200m fin swim followed by 100m fin patient tow in 10mins
-
Tread water for 10 mins
-
Duck dive 3m to retrieve an object of 1kg.
03
'Technical Mastery'
You must seek to better yourself in all technical aspects of your role as an RCO. You must be able to rely on your knowledge and experience at the most difficult occasions without error or omission. 3am, poor weather, raging seas, multiple casualties, what do you do?
